GETTING BACK TO OUR ROOTS
Do you see that funny "http" up there at the top of your screen? This blog has the words "AbbyAdventures" right there in the address, does it not? I started it 7 years ago to document every moment of Abby's life. Since then, we have added 3 more children and we have another on the way in October. After Baby #3 was born, I merged several blogs into one family blog and abandoned my nearly daily habit of posting at this address.
Abby has been asking more and more lately to use the computer as part of our homeschooling routine. She often plays educational games or types letters to friends. Today she wrote her first blog post over on our family blog (and I have cross posted it here, too). She was so thrilled to publish something on the web that I decided that it would be a fun idea to turn *this* blog address over to her since she was the one who inspired it in the first place!
So... as of August 2010, Abby Adventures is now being written by adventurous Abby herself! All the old posts up until May of 2008 (right after Sarah arrived) are still here but the new posts will be Abby's.
She will write on the blog as part of her schooling and use it as an opportunity to practice spelling, proper grammar and composition. It's also a fabulous way to keep family and friends up to date on what's going on with her and to give her some additional practice at using a computer! She has her own little laptop right next to my desk and she will do the writing herself. I will help her with blog topics, content input, and grammatical instruction as we go. I will also upload pictures that she asks me to add to her postings and eventually teach her how to do that herself. I think that this will be a fabulous tool for school! (And it is AWESOME for spelling as well because when she misspells a word, that nifty little red line pops up underneath it and she knows that she has to ask for help or figure out the correct spelling!)
